Cut into steep cliffs, Portpatrick village was built around 700 years ago adjacent to the ruins of Dunksey Castle on the far west coast of Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland.
It offers spectacular views of the Northern Irish coastline which is just 21 miles further west with picturesque cliff top coastal walks and fine sandy beaches nearby.
Portpatrick has a busy and active community who run several events throughout the year including Life Boat week, Porpatrick harbour being the station for the region's Life Boat crew. The village has its own bowls club, golf club and mini-putting course as well as plenty of fine hotels and restaurants which are very popular all year round.
The Southern Upland Way, a long distance walk across Scotland, starts at Portpatrick and makes it's way through stunning scenery to Cockburnspath on the East coast of Scotland.
